Removal of Varicose Veins

For sufferers of varicose veins, the negative effects are physical as well as visual. Varicose veins result from blood pooling in the veins of the lower extremities. Since blood has to be pumped against gravity from our legs back up to our hearts, the valves in our veins are constantly  battling to keep blood from flowing backwards. However, over the years these valves can weaken due to hormonal changes, the natural aging process, pregnancy and hereditary causes. Once the vein valves have weakened, blood begins to pool in the veins, causing the vein to bulge and twist - the condition known as varicose veins. Varicose veins are also known for their dark bluish appearance, which is due to the deoxygenated blood that is pooling in the vein. Once they have formed, they only tend to worsen since the valves have no way of repairing themselves. The only varicose veins that have the potential to improve over time are those that form during pregnancy. This is because they form due to the added pressure on veins from the growing uterus, and the fact that pregnant women have more blood in their body to support the baby. Once the uterus returns to its smaller size after birth, the pressure is alleviated and many veins will regain their normal valve function.
